Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to distribute the newly-built modern flats among 533 slum dwellers and their families of Dhaka on Tuesday.

The dream of a better living of Dhaka’s slum dwellers is becoming true as they are getting modern flats including all the facilities of a modern urban residence, like lifts, generators, solar power, walkways, power substations, open spaces and beautification.

The Ministry of Housing and Public Works transformed a slum into a standard housing area by constructing five 14-storey buildings at Mirpur Section 11. This is the first phase of relocating slum residents.

Sources said the government planned to gradually build 16,000 more flats for slum residents.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “We do not want any people to live in slums.”

“The housing problem of the citizens will be reduced significantly upon completion of the flats’ development work,” she added.

The modern building for the slum dwellers also proves the dedication of the government for the poor people.

Besides, thousands of homeless and landless people across the country have become homeowners under the government’s housing project Ashrayan.

Earlier, the prime minister said, “We have set a target in Mujib Borsho that not a single person will remain without address or home. I will ensure an address for everyone.”
