PM mourns death of physicist Bikiran Prasad Barua

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Ekushey Padak winning physicist Professor Dr Bikiran Prasad Barua, an internationally reputed Buddhist leader and secretary general of Bangladesh Bauddha Kristi Prachar Sangha. 

In a condolence message, the premier prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Bikiran Prasad Barua passed away at Lab Aid Hospital in the capital on Wednesday (August 16) at the age of 80. 

Born in Chattogram on December 1 in 1943, he was a Bangladeshi physicist and educationist. He is the former chairman of the physics department of the University of Chittagong. 

In recognition of his contribution in education, the government of Bangladesh awarded him the country’s second highest civilian award Ekushey Padak in 2020.

He was the President of the Bangabandhu Education and Research Council in the Greater Chittagong area. He published 17 research papers on physics.
