Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as per her commitment, has given financial assistance of over Taka 8.63 crore to 6970 more qaumi madrasas of the country ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, reports BSS.
“The money has been sent to the bank accounts of the deputy commissioners of the concerned districts through Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) system on May 17,” PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS on Monday.
Of the total amount of Tk 8,63,45,000, he said, 2202 madrasas of Dhaka division received Tk 2 crore 55 lakh and 30 thousand, 1211 madrasas of Chattogram division Tk 1crore 77 lakh and 65 thousand and 937 madrasas of Mymensingh division got Tk 1 crore 31 lakh and 5 thousand.
Besides, 839 madrasas of Rangpur division received Tk 94.25 lakh, 662 madrasas of Rajshahi division Tk 74.45 lakh, 431 madrasas of Khulna division Tk 55.80 lakh, 486 madrasas of Sylhet division Tk 48.60 lakh and 202 madrasas of Barishal division Tk 26.35 lakh.
Taka 10,000 has been allocated for each madrasa with 100 students or below, Tk 15,000 for a madrasa having students between 101 and 200 and Tk 20,000 for each madrasa having above 200 students, the press secretary said.
While launching the disbursement of Taka 1,250 crore cash assistance among 50 lakh poor families hit hard amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on May 14, the prime minister declared that the government will give financial assistance to all mosques and 7,000 more qaumi madrasas across the country before the Eid-ul Fitr.
Sheikh Hasina said the government, in the first phase, had given donation of nearly Taka 10 crore to 6,959 qaumi madrasas-cum-orphanages across the country ahead of the Ramadan.
“In the second phase, we’ll provide financial support to 7,000 more such madrasas ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr … we’re taking these steps so that the people of any class don’t remain neglected,” she said.
The prime minister said the government will also give financial assistance to all mosques of the country before the Eid.
“We know that the mosques are run with the donation of the affluent people and the mosque committees. But we (government) have also a responsibility in this regard. We’ve asked to prepare a list of the mosques … we’ll give financial help to all mosques,” she said.
Earlier, the prime minister gave donation of about Taka 10 crore to 6,959 qaumi madrasas of the country on the occasion of the holy Ramadan.
Among the madrasas, 703 are in Rangpur division, 704 in Rajshahi division, 1,011 in Khulna division, 402 in Barishal division, 397 in Mymensingh division, 1780 in Dhaka division, 1481 in Chattogram division and 481 in Sylhet division.
Qaumi madrasa leaders of the country have highly praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for giving the financial assistance on the occasion of the holy Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr amid the coronavirus situation.
