Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the authorities concerned to plant trees on both sides of Jashore highway. “Trees are balancing the environment. It is also protecting the roads and environment. On the other hand, heavy rain and sunshine are destroying the roads,” the premier said.
She has given the directive on planting trees at the executive committee of the national economic council (ECNEC) meeting held at National Economic Council (NEC) conference room in the city’s Agargaon on Tuesday. Quoting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Planning Minister MA Mannan told reporters after the ECNEC meeting that Premier has also asked to construct high rise buildings in upazilas and districts.
The ECNEC has approved a project to construct Polashbari-Doratana-Monihar-Murali highways into four-lane from Monihar to Murali to ease traffic movement and reduce traffic jam in Jashore. The project estimates an expenditure of Tk 131.17 crore which will come from the government exchequer. The project would be implemented by December 2021 and the Roads and Highways Department will execute the project.
During the approval of the project, the Prime Minister has asked the authorities concerned to plant trees on both sides of the roads in Jashore highway. Under the project, the authority concerned will construct 2.91 kilometres out 6.49 highways of Palbari to Murali into Four-lane. This highway is the entry and exit of Jashore including the southern region of the country — Jhinaidah, Narail, Khulna, Bagerhat.
This 2.91km highway will connect the district with some other southern districts. Over 16,000 loaded and unloaded vehicles are estimated to ply through the highways everyday. So, the government has decided to construct 4-Lane highways for better management of the traffic on the highways.
During the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan handed over a book containing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s instructions or official directives from 2009 to 2019. The ECNEC has approved total seven projects worth of Tk 7312.51 crore.
