Plaintiff, witness beaten in Noakhali

The complainant of a case came under attack by the accused as he refused to drop the case. The incident took place at Lemua of Senbag in Noakhali on recently. The accused also beat one of the witnesses and warned him not to give any testimony before the court.

The victim Zahid Hasan, 30, son of freedom fighter and retired Army member Esak Molla lodged a complaint about the incident at Senbag police station in this connection on the day of the incident.

Earlier, Zahid Hasan filed an attempt to murder case against some people including Sala Ahmed, Jalal Ahmed, Dulal Hossain on May 4, 2020 with Senbag police station for attacking and critically injuring one of his family members, which is under trial at the court of Kazi Sonia Akhter-additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Noakhali.

After securing bail in the case the accused allegedly started pressuring the complainant continuously to drop the case. On May 30, 2020 the accused threatened and asked Zahid to drop the case otherwise, he will face dire consequences.

Getting the complaint that the accused are giving pressure to drop the case police lodged an investigation and found the truth. Following the pressure of the accused to drop the case - the court warned the accused not to threaten or give pressure to drop the case in the future on December 03,2020. After three weeks of court warned the accused Sala Ahmed, Jalal Ahmed along with some unknown people again on Thursday has carried out the attack on the complaint and witness, said  Advocate Jahangir Hossain, lawyer of the plaintiff.

In the attack complaint Zahid Hasan and one of the witness Hafez Ahmed, 45 were injured. They have taken treatment at Sengbag Upazila Health Complex.

Zahid Hasan said, “The accused are giving us continuous pressure to withdraw the case. When I have denied withdrawing the case the attack on me and on a witness. They beat us and threatened to withdraw the case unless we will face dire consequences. We are leading our life under insecurity due to the repeated attack.”

When contacted, Abdul Baten Mridha- Officer-in-charge (OC) of Senbag Police Station said, “After hearing about the attack on the son of the freedom fighter, a patrol team was sent there. Earlier, the same people had threatened to drop the case against him. The attackers are accused in various sabotage cases of Sengbagh police station. Legal action is being taken in this case.”

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Poribarborga (a platform for the children of the freedom fighters) the central leaders have expressed their concern and condemnation over the heinous attack on the children of the freedom fighters.

Faruk Abdullah, vice chairman of the platform demanded that those involved in the incident be brought to justice soon.
