A cheque of Tk 1 lakh was provided to the families of 96 pirates as part of their rehabilitation, who surrendered to Police at Maheshkhali in Cox's Bazar.

The check was handed over on Sunday noon at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room in Cox's Bazar. The pirates who returned to normal life and their families  were happy to receive the money at this critical moment in the country.

MP from Maheshkhali-Kutubdia constituency Alhaj Ashhek Ullah Rafiq, Deputy Commissioner of Kamal Hossain, Superintendent of Police ABM Masud Hossain, District Awami League President Advocate Sirajul Mostafa and others were present at the time.

The DC said that crime has decreased in Maheshkhali-Kutubdia area due to the return of these pirates back to normal life. He also said the entire administration is grateful to MM Akram who helped with the surrender.

It is to be noted that on November 23 last year, the pirates surrendered with their weapons and ammunition. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina promised them rehabilitation. As part of that rehabilitation, check was distributed from PM's Relief and Welfare Fund.
