Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ pilot Captain Nowshad Ataul Qayyum, who suffered a heart attack mid-air, has died.
He died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur, India.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines deputy general manager (Public Relations) Tahera Khondaker confirmed this to Bangladesh Post.
She said, “We have learnt from the hospital sources that Captain Nowshad is no more.”
“The process of bringing his body to the country is underway,” she added. Pilot Captain Nowshad Ataul Qayyum suddenly fell ill on Friday on his way to Dhaka from Muscat with a total of 124 passengers on the scheduled flight BG022 of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The flight made an emergency landing at Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur in Maharashtra, India.
He was later admitted to the hospital in Nagpur for treatment. After two days of treatment, Captain Nowshad left for the land of no return.
Earlier on Saturday, the hospital’s assistant general manager (AGM) Roshan Phulbandhe said Captain Nowshad was in a coma. There has been a lot of bleeding in the brain. He had been taken on full ventilation.
