Bangladesh has achieved tremendous success in a number of industries whereas pharmaceuticals is in the leading position. The country can produce almost 98 percent medicine locally and after fulfilling the domestic demand, it is exporting medicine to 160 countries around the world. This success was possible because of the pharmacists.
S. M. Shafiuzzaman, secretary general, Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (BAPI) said this while inaugurating DIU Pharma Career Expo 2019: 10 years Celebration of Pharmacy Department began at the main campus of Daffodil International University in the capital on Saturday. Department of Pharmacy of Daffodil International University (DIU) organised the 2-day DIU Pharma Career Expo 2019.
Dr. Mominul Haque, managing director, General Pharmaceuticals Ltd was present as special guest in the programme.
S M Shafiuzzaman also said that pharmacy sector in Bangladesh is going to be a major field very soon. The country is fetching huge amount of foreign currency. A huge job market has already been created in this field and to tap the growing demand for pharmacists, most universities have opened Pharmacy Department. But most of them run following old course curriculum still now. We should change our course curriculum in the basis of market demand. In this regard, BAPI will help for making new course curriculum, he added.
Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University and Chairman, Daffodil Family presided over the inaugural ceremony. The inaugural ceremony was also addressed by Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahabubul Islam, vice chancellor, Professor Dr. S M Mahabubul Haque Majumder, pro-vice chancellor, DIU Muhammad Mahabubul Haque, secretary, Bangladesh Pharmacy Council and Dr. Sharif Mohammad Shahin, head, Department of Pharmacy of Daffodil International University.
The DIU Pharma Career Expo includes seminar, workshop, career talk show, exhibition and project display. A total of 15 pharmaceutical industries are participating in this career expo.
A series of seminar titled “Employability 360 in Pharma–Sector”, “Pharma Product Management in Bangladesh” and “Professional employability in Pharma –sector” will be held where industry leaders and Professional Experts will share their experience and provide guide line for the new comers in this sector.
Dr. Md. Sabur Khan said that pharmacy department of Daffodil International University is celebrating 10 years journey. It’s really pride for us. In this 10 years journey, many students got graduate degree from this department and they doing very well in pharmacy sector of home and abroad. Department of pharmacy is strongly committed to produce skilled pharmacists.
Dr. Md. Sabur Khan also said that “we have to enrich our research in pharmacy sector and we have to produce new products. In this regard we need change the course curriculum. Students have to be more innovative and they should learn proper use of modern technology for pharmaceuticals research.’
