While addressing a grand rally in the capital Dhaka Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina categorically said the next general election will be held on time and the people will exercise their voting rights freely.
She also called upon the countrymen to be cautious so that BNP cannot thwart the upcoming national election through any evil move. It is clear to all that the next general election in Bangladesh will be held under her (Sheikh Hasina) Awami League government and it will be free and fair.
Bangladesh is due to go to national election by the first week of next year. After the assassination of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, military dictators jeopardised all election process.
Hence, the election was just a game (then). She (Sheikh Hasina) has struggled for restoring democracy and people’s right to vote.
Without election there is
no way to
come to power
So, it was her (Sheikh Hasina) struggle to ensure free and fair election and she did it in every election. Country’s people will decide who will run the country as it is their power. All believe that Bangabandhu’s worthy daughter Sheikh Hasina will not grab state power like military dictators Ziaur Rahman and HM Ershad. Rather she wants to empower people that they should have their right to choose their government. People of Bangladesh have trust in Sheikh Hasina as she was able to address all the crises and challenges the Bangali nation witnessed in the last four decades. But, the BNP-Jamaat clique is now demanding the resignation of the Awami League regime and the dissolution of the parliament, saying that the government must hand over power to an interim government to be formed on the basis of political consensus.
However, we think it is time for BNP to quit politics due to its continuous negative attitude to politics and elections. The BNP’s failure plunged Bangladesh into extreme uncertainty and distress.
They (BNP leaders) failed in running the government and set an instance of showing extreme irresponsibility as an opposition party. But, now time has come for BNP, not for the Awami League government, to leave politics due to its negative politics and negligence to elections.
We want to say firmly that there is no scope of changing the incumbent government without polls. The source of Awami League’s power is the country's people and the owner of power is the almighty Allah. Therefore, we can say that without election there is no way to come to power.
