A stretch of approximately 2 km of previously paved road in Dhunte, Bogura has deteriorated into a treacherous mud puddle, rendering it impassable for vehicles for nearly 20 days.
The area has been engulfed in the fervor of the mud cutting festival, with only tractors dominating the road. In Chitra Upazila's Sonar Gaon village of Chikashi Union, numerous accidents related to the mud cutting festival have left several individuals injured.
Mizanur Rahman, a local businessman, shared his unfortunate experience, recounting an accident that occurred on July 10 while traveling from Chikashi to Natabari Bazar on the paved road in Sonargaon village. Not only was he injured, but his merchandise was also destroyed.
Zahurul Islam, a teacher, expressed his ordeal while commuting to the educational institution via Sonar Gaon road. What should have been a 10-minute drive now takes approximately an hour due to the hazardous conditions. The slippery road poses great difficulty for motorcyclists, let alone pedestrians attempting to cover long distances on foot.
Last Thursday, July 13, witnessed the constant movement of 3 to 4 tractors loaded with soil every 15 minutes along the 2 km road. As a result, mud has accumulated, rendering the road completely impassable.
Driving on this road after the mud cutting festival feels like staring death in the face. The widespread dissatisfaction stems from the fact that the previously paved road has been utterly destroyed. Rabiul, a passerby, expressed his frustration, highlighting the dire condition caused solely by the soil cutting activities. Unfortunately, nobody seems to be taking notice of this hazardous situation.Countless accidents have occurred, and the once paved road has now become even worse than an unpaved road. Many individuals risk their lives by traversing this treacherous path. Traveling at night on this slippery road becomes an arduous task, and reaching one's destination is an ordeal in itself.
The community desperately calls for the administration's intervention to safeguard the road. Numerous locals have voiced their concerns, urging authorities to take immediate action to address the deteriorating state of the road and ensure the safety of commuters.
