The Atpasha Bazar Link Road in Dhaki union under Mithamoin upazila of Kishoreganj has been submerged for the last three months. As a result, several thousand people of Atpasha village under Dhaki union in Mithamoin upazila of the Haor area are facing immense suffering. The repair work is also being delayed due to the water on the road.

It has become almost impossible to even walk on that road.

The construction materials have been lying beside the road for the last three months. However, the road still remains under water.

The residents of Atpasha village said the road is very important for the Dhaki union in Mithamoin upazila. It connected Dhaki Union Parishad (UP) with Gobindapur Bazar, Gobindapur village, Atpasha Bazar and Atpasha village. If the road is completed, they would not have to take alternative route to go to Mithamoin or Itna upazila.

A lot of people, including students of MA Goni Bhuiyan High School and Atpasha Government Primary School, use the road every day. The children cannot go to school through this road as the road remains waterlogged. Their cloths get dirty due to the water. Moreover, the farmers use this road to bring paddy of Gobindapur and Atpasha Haor to their home. If the road is not constructed soon, there sufferings will not end. They urged the authorities concerned to construct the road quickly.

When this correspondent visited the area, it was seen that construction materials including bricks, stones, and brick chips are lying there. The road is waterlogged. The ‘Kutcha’ road is in dilapidated condition. It is very risky to drive vehicles on that road. Tractor, auto-rickshaw, CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers and motorcycle and bicycle riders are moving with difficulties on that road. The residents of the village are taking three to four km detour to go to other places to avoid the suffering.

The contractor of the construction work Mominul Haque Selim said we will start the work right after the water dries up. We could not work due to the water.

Dhaki Union Parishad Chairman Lutfar Rahman Bhuiyan Rubel said the low-lying areas remain dry for six months and remain under water for the other six months of the year. The work was supposed to start after the contract. However, it could not be started as the road went under water. It is a normal scenario in the low-lying areas. The water is receding now. We want the work to be completed in the shortest possible time.

Mithamoin Upazila Engineer Foyjur Razzak said the road connects Katkhal and Bairati union of Mithamoin upazila. Moreover, people of Itna upazila will be able to go easily to Mithamoin upazila. As a result, there will be a positive improvement in the living standard and socio-economic condition of the people of these areas.
