About 42 lakh holidaymakers return to Dhaka after Eid

Although the Eid holiday is over, many people are still leaving Dhaka. Those who did not go home to avoid the sufferings or for their engagement in various work are now making their homebound journey. 

However, on the fourth day of Eid, a total of 4161452 people (counting based on SIM user) returned to the capital.   In the last seven days 12328395 SIM users left the capital on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr. Of the total, 1228278 SIM users had left Dhaka on April 18, 1672645 and 2453909 SIM users left Dhaka during the next two days. The highest number of 3197408 people left Dhaka on April 21 and on the Eid day 1607546 people went to their respective destinations. During the next two days after the Eid day, 1228801 people and 939808 people left Dhaka respectively. Post and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar posted the statistics based on SIM users of four operators - Grameenphone Limited, Robi Aziata Limited, Banglalink Digital Communications and Teletalk Bangladesh Limited in his verified Facebook Page on Tuesday. 

After the five-day holiday of the Eid-ul-Fitr, official activities resumed on Monday. Holidaymakers of the capital started returning Sunday. 

According to the minister’s statistics, 492619 SIM users returned to Dhaka on Sunday (April 23). A total of 878042 SIM users returned to Dhaka on Monday (April 24) and a total 4161452 SIM users returned to Dhaka after Eid. 

The statistics further showed that highest number of Grameenphone SIM users left Dhaka during the Eid holidays while the highest number of Banglalink SIM users entered Dhaka during the holidays.

Mustafa Jabbar said, the statistics is based on mobile SIM accounts, it does not depend on individual. A person can have multiple SIMs. On the contrary, there are also some people who do not have any mobile SIM. For example, little children in the family do not have mobile phones or SIM cards.
