Bangladesh Police on Thursday issued a series of safety guidelines for citizens planning to travel to their hometowns. This initiative aims to ensure a safe and smooth journey of thousands of homebound people. The police have discouraged travelers from risking their lives by riding on the roofs of buses, trucks, pickups, and other goods vehicles. Besides, police warned of the dangers for those who will travel on the roof, buffer, and engine of trains. They also cautioned against the act of throwing stones at trains.
The journey of homebound people by train from Dhaka and its surrounding areas on Thursday smooth and hassle-free. At least 22 trains departed from the capital Dhaka’s Kamalapur railway station on time till noon on Thursday.
However, traffic may go out of gear on most highways connected with Dhaka, including Dhaka-Chattogram, Dhaka-Sylhet, Dhaka-Mymensingh, Dhaka-Tangail, Joydebpur-Chandra-Tangail-Elenga, Dhaka-Aricha, Dhaka-Rangpur and Dhaka-Khulna, five days before the Eid. The situation may take a turn for the worse as there is a chance of rain before and during the Eid.
Over six million people are may leave the capital on the occasion of Eid. Of them, nearly four million will go home by roads. The government must take all necessary measures so that people can go to home safely to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones.
