Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed has said that people’s expectations towards police have been increased significantly.

He also urged police personnel not to mistreat people in any excuse.

He was addressing at a programs of constables and ASIs who are working in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at the Rajarbagh Police Lines Auditorium in the city on Sunday.

The program was organized to have a view exchange between the police chief and the grassroots-level police personnel of DMP.

He said, “The respect of the whole force depends on your behaviour.”

The IGP said, “The largest portion of the force is police constables. There are hundreds of ASIs and SIs in the force as well. If everyone in this big part is fine, the force will be fine too.”

Addressing the constables, he said, “Even though you are a junior member of the force, you are among the most important. In the last ten years, various problems of the police force have been solved.”

He also thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for solving these issues.

Dr Benazir Ahmed further said, “Everything we do is for the country. In last twelve years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, our per capita income has increased to 2014 US dollars from $546 as we have been able to provide security to the state, society, businessmen and foreign investors by maintaining law and order in the country.”

The door of our dreams has been opened. We have taken initiatives to establish eight good quality education institutions in the divisional cities, he said.

The central police hospital is being turned into a specialized hospital, he added.

Instructing the children to live honestly, the IGP said, "Encourage the children to grow up as good human being, make them good human being."

Those who have illegal money, their children cannot be good human beings.

Dr Benazir Ahmed said, “People remember police with love and respect as we did a good job during the coronavirus pandemic.”

During coronavirus pandemic, millions of people expressed their satisfaction with the police service. And they pointed out positive aspects about police personnel. Seventy four of our policemen have died in corona. More than 20,000 policemen were infected.

Mentioning DMP as the mirror of Bangladesh Police, he said, “You can be proud to work here. You can earn the respect of the people.

He said, in all cases, the intelligence should be used instead of using strength. Remember, we want to do this job with pride. We want to say with pride that I am a member of Bangladesh Police. People will respect us for our work.”

DMP Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said, "We will work hard so that the trust and confidence of the people in us is not lost."

We will never allow anyone to tarnish the dignity of the police force by someone's misdeeds, he added.

Senior officers are regularly investigating the treatment of corona patients. Masks, soaps, hand sanitizers and medicines were provided to every member of the DMP to prevent corona infection.
