Unpaved roads of Dibigram Union of Chatmohar Upazila in Pabna remains submerged most of the times throughout the year. The people of this area are struggling with indescribable difficulty through knee-deep mud and water. Despite a canal and drainage system have been built alongside the road, illegal occupants in the area filled these, thus waterlogging and mud filled unpaved road become a constant hassles for the people in this area.
Jahangir Alam Lenin, a resident of Khairash village, said that it was the only easy way to communicate with the Dibigram Union Parishad. About one thousand people live in the area and a half kilometer part of the village. People from at least 15 villages of Pabna and Natore use this road. But the road is not paved and thousands of people have been suffering for a long time due to waterlogging. A farmer named Asmat Ali said that it is merely impossible to walk on this road.
The road is submerged in water during the rainy season. They have to navigate through knee-deep mud water. Students before closure of schools suffered heavily due to this dilapidated condition of this road. Many others in the area expressed their displeasure, saying that there was no one to watch or listen to their suffering.
They have been living a miserable life for many years because of a road. They did not get any benefit even after repeatedly applying to the concerned department including the people's representative. They have to travel through muddy water for about six months of the year.
SM Waheed Ali said there was a canal by the side of the village. The water would basically go down through that canal. Many people have occupied the canal and built houses for several years. Many people are cultivating fish by occupying canals and digging ponds. It is possible to get rid of the occupants by evicting them and digging canals. Then drainage system in the area will be hugely improved, he added.
In this regard, Chatmohar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Saikat Islam said, if the canal can be dug officially and water can be extracted, the benefits will be obtained then. Road development work will be done from ADP allocation. I will try to find out and take necessary action in this regard, he said.
