Bangladesh is self-sufficient in food today under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. People are satisfied and happy with the development and achievement of the country, said Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.

He made the remarks at a press conference held at his office in the Secretariat on Thursday morning.

At that time, he commented that the BNP’s vision is blurred.

Obaidul Quader said, “It is natural that those who search for dark alleys to come in power will not see the light. BNP is revolving around the circle of lightless and hopeless negative politics. And the frustrated BNP leaders are sitting at home making up stories of famine.”

Regarding the issue of BNP secretary general seeing famine all over the country, the minister said that the famine is not in the country but in the mentality of some opposition leaders including BNP.

He said, “The story of Bangladesh's achievement under the able leadership of Sheikh Hasina is now appreciated in every corner of the world, but sadly the BNP leaders do not really see it. They see the darkness on a full moon night.”

Claiming that the BNP has been pursuing a politics of vengeance in the country since its inception, the Minister said that the people of the country are well aware of the history of BNP’s killing, conspiracy to oppress political opponents and the history of seizing power by holding people hostage under guns.

“Some leaders of the opposition, including the BNP, have taken to the field to protest against the government of Sheikh Hasina. Without any constructive criticism, they have started protesting against Sheikh Hasina and her government inside and outside the Parliament,” he added.

Noting that the Awami League does not believe in the politics of revenge and repression, he said that the Awami League has seen the brutality of August 15, 1975 and the inhumanity of November 3.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister further said, “More than 20 attempts have been made to assassinate Sheikh Hasina including grenade attack. Cakes have been cut in the name of celebrating false birthday on 15th August. Our hearts have bled repeatedly. Yet, the Awami League did not follow any undemocratic or illegal path.”
