Power connection of the Sarishabari municipality in Jamalpur was cut by Power Development Board (PDB) on Sunday over an outstanding bill of Tk 2 crore and 45 lakh.
Sarishabari PDB office sources said there are dues of total electricity bill of Tk 16.5 crore. Of the total due bills, PDB is yet to get the electricity bill of Tk 2.45 crore from Sarishabari municipality as the organization did not pay any bill until 2021 from its establishment.
PDB Sarishabari executive engineer Md Moshiur Rahman said Sarishabari municipality did not pay any electricity bill until 2021 from its establishment. Its outstanding bill stands at Tk 2 crore and 45 lakh. He also said the dues had not been paid by the municipality authority even after frequent notices. So, the power connection of the municipality was disconnected following the directions of the higher authority of PDB.
Sarishabari Municipality Mayor said the due amount of the electricity bill is until 2021. It is before I became the mayor. I have been paying the electricity bills of the municipality regularly since I took charge as a mayor in 2021. Although the due bills were from previous mayors’ tenure, it is now a liability of the municipality. So, the due electricity bills will be gradually paid.
