PBI unearths mystery of motor depot robbery, 2 held

Gazipur District Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has revealed the mystery regarding the arrest of the accused in the case of robbery at the car depot of Nitol Motors Ltd. in November last year in Gazipur.

On November 29 in 2019, 4 unidentified robbers entered the depot with weapons like sharp knives, long blades, iron rods, pistols etc. They broke the lock of the store room and stole a total of 5 mobile phones used by the security guards and drivers including Tk 53,210 in cash.

They also took 4 computer hard disks, 3 laptops, 3 UPS, Cisco switch, digital camera, , Hyde Jack, Bracket, New Tire, Old Tire, Wheel Rim, Old Battery, Quick Battery Charger Machine, Battery Helping Cable, Old Radiator, Welding Machine and various other goods worth Tk 14,7,610. 

They fled in a mini truck with an unknown number brought with them and escaped through the main gate of the company at about half past one. When the case was handed over to PBI, Gazipur under the direction of Police Headquarters, it was handed over to PBI Sub-Inspector Md. Sumon Mia. Md. Sumon Mia arrested the robbers and started an investigation into the recovery of the looted goods. 

Under the supervision and direction of PBI Deputy Inspector General Banaj Kumar Majumder, PBI Gazipur Unit In-Charge Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Makshuder Rahman with the overall cooperation of the investigating officer Md. Sumon Mia investigated the case. 

Two accused named Rajib Mia (Patal), 19 and Sharif, 25, both sons of Alamgir of Rudrapur under Joydevpur Police Station in Gazipur were detained in this regard. They were remanded in police custody on November 8, 2020 while, they admitted that they were directly involved in the robbery.

Based on the information of the accused, a blue-yellow jack mini pickup carrying the goods used in the robbery was recovered from them during the operation.

Accused Rajib Mia (Patal) and Sharif disclosed the names and addresses of their other co-accused.

Giving details of the incident they voluntarily gave their confessional statement to the court on November 8, in 2020 in accordance with Section 164 of the Penal Code. 

The case is still under investigation. Efforts are underway to arrest the other accused involved in the case and to recover the looted goods, Gazipur PBI informed.
