PBI to probe embezzlement case against Sayeed Khokon

A Dhaka Court on Wednesday accepted an embezzlement case filed against former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon and six others.

Earlier on Tuesday, the case was filed against them in connection with embezzling   around Tk 35 crore.

Md Delwar Hossain, president of owners' association of Gulistan’s Phulbaria City Supermarket 2 filed the case with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

After recording Delwar’s statement, Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to look into the accusations and submit a report before the court by January 31.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ashek Imam recorded his statement and fixed Wednesday to pass an order in this connection.

The six other accused are Yusuf Ali Sardar, former chief revenue officer of DSCC, and former deputy assistant engineers Majeed, Kamrul Hasan, Helena Akhter, Atiqur Rahman and Md Walid Hossen.

According to the case statement, Khokon and six others took around Tk35 crore from him and others traders in the name of allocating shops at the market’s Block A between June 21, 2015, and September 29, 2019.

The accused then embezzled the money and allocated the illegal shops among the traders, which were recently demolished by the DSCC.
