State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali MP has directed the local administration to focus on maintaining the tourism infrastructure.
He gave this instruction while addressing an online workshop organized by Bangladesh Tourism Board with Rajbari district on Thursday with the aim of involving tourism in local development plans and creating public awareness about tourism.
He said, infrastructural development contributes to the development of tourism. However, in addition to building new tourism infrastructure, the old infrastructure needs to be properly maintained.
Environmental protection must be ensured during the construction of tourism infrastructure. The local administration needs to pay attention to this issue. Bangladesh Tourism Board will work closely with the local administration in this regard. After the preparation of the tourism master plan, the necessary new tourism infrastructure facilities will be created by judging the overall situation in the light of it.
The state minister said, Bangladesh is a riverine country. Rivers are an integral part of our lives. Knowing Bangladesh would be incomplete without knowing about the rivers of Bangladesh, the lives of the people along the rivers and the activities centered on the rivers. Our rivers are one of the tourist attractions. Plans are being made to develop "River Tourism" . The plan will include various types of tourism facilities including river cruises, various water riding, boating.
Mahbub Ali said, Bangladesh Tourism Board will work to ensure greater participation of domestic and foreign tourists in various traditional fairs held at Rajbari. In addition, Bangladesh Tourism Board will take necessary steps in partnership with the local administration to build river-based tourism facilities in Rajbari district on the banks of the Padma.
The workshop was conducted by Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber, Director, Bangladesh Tourism Board and presided over by Dilsad Begum, Deputy Commissioner, Rajbari District.
BTB’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jabed Ahmed also spoke at the workshop, among others.
