Since the Corona virus outbreak in the district the hospitals and clinics in Narayanganj have turned into a new business for treating the COVID-19 patients but the general patients are being ignored in the process.
Patients like pregnant mothers, diabetics’ patient, hypertension patient, paediatric patient and others who are regular patient or have emergency need to receive treatment have been deprived from their regular treatment due to private clinics and hospitals being closed. Private chambers of specialist physicians are also closed down.
On the other hand a huge number of such kinds of patients have been suffering from their disease following their previous prescription or have to go to the quack for emergency aid.
Among the two government hospitals in the town- 1 is assigned for COVID-19 patients that have 300 beds and the other hospital which can accommodate 100 patients is opened for the general patients. The 100-bed hospital does not have all kinds of specialist physicians and necessary treatment equipment.
Especially the pregnant mothers have to face various crisis and has to take the help of local untrained midwifes to birth their babies in the current situation.
A pregnant mother told the Bangladesh Post that she felt pain at midnight all on sudden and she then rushed to the Mother and Child Welfare Centre but found no physicians there. Then she moved to 100 bed hospital and the on-duty emergency physician gave treatment after examining.
Besides, the elderly men and women who have been suffering from chronic diseases for a long time are now facing trouble continuing their treatment.
Health department should announce special declaration to open the private chamber of the disease specialist physicians at once otherwise the current situation might cause a new disaster for the people of Narayanganj, conscious citizens opined.
