A serious allegation has emerged from Noakhali district regarding the death of a patient, Rinki Akter (20), following what her family claims was a wrong surgical procedure at an ENT hospital in Maijdi Housing area. The hospital, operating from a residential house under the name E.N.T Hospital, is owned by Dr. Mojibul Haque, who reportedly fled the premises along with other hospital staff after the incident.

According to the deceased’s family, Rinki, a resident of Badrpur village under Bazra Union in Sonaimuri Upazila, was initially taken to Dhaka for medical consultation when she developed throat problems. Doctors there confirmed that she had a tonsil and nasal polyp issue but stated that it was at an early stage and not severe. Later, the family brought her to Dr. Mojibul Haque, an ENT specialist who operates a chamber at the Maijdi-based hospital.

Dr. Haque reportedly informed the family that minor surgery was needed for both her tonsil and nasal polyp. Following his advice, Rinki was admitted to the hospital on November 25 around noon, and surgery was performed around 4:30 pm the same day. The following day, she was discharged hurriedly. However, her condition worsened at home, with multiple complications emerging.

According to Rinki’s elder brother, Shakil, repeated attempts to contact Dr. Haque for advice were met with assurances that she would recover. On Saturday morning, Rinki began bleeding from her throat, prompting her family to rush her back to the doctor’s chamber. Upon arrival, they were informed that she had passed away. Subsequently, Dr. Haque and hospital staff reportedly left the premises, leaving the family and locals shocked and angered.

Family members have demanded justice and strict legal action against Dr. Haque for alleged medical negligence and wrongdoing.

Attempts to reach hospital authorities for comments were unsuccessful. Multiple calls to Dr. Haque’s personal mobile went unanswered.

Sudharam Model Police Station’s Sub-Inspector London Chowdhury stated that police officers visited the hospital after receiving news of the incident. He confirmed that they spoke with the deceased’s family and advised them to file a formal complaint at the police station. SI Chowdhury added that legal action would be taken if a complaint is lodged.
