Passenger held at Ctg airport with foreign currency worth Tk 22 lakh

A passenger bound for the United Arab Emirates has been arrested at the Chattogram  Shah Amanat International Airport with local and foreign currencies worth Tk 22 lakh.

The airport AVSEC, Customs, DGFI, and NSI searched the passenger named Md. Abdul Majid around 8 pm on Sunday.

4,700 US dollars, 47,885 UAE dinars, 3,762 Saudi riyals, 346 Omani dinars, and 36,000 Bangladeshi taka were found with him.

Shah Amanat International Airport Public Relations Officer Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil said that at the international anti-hijack cabin baggage scanning point of Chattogram  Airport, Sharjah-bound passenger Md. Abdul Majid of Lohagara was found suspicious and the armed security guard on duty Md. Mahfuzur Rahman wanted to know if there was any foreign currency without endorsement.

At first, the passenger denied it. Then, the passenger's body was searched at the spot and if it was found that there was foreign currency, the passenger was handed over to the officer in charge of DGFI.

At the customs baggage counter of the airport, the passenger's baggage was searched in the presence of Airport AVSEC, Customs, NSI, DGFI, Air Force Task Force and CIID and the foreign currencies were found. The seized currency was seized in DM form.

A case has been filed against the passenger at Patenga Police Station on charges of smuggling foreign currency by evading government revenue duties.

After initial interrogation, the detained passenger was handed over to Patenga Police Station.
