The Panchagarh bound intercity train, Panchagarh Express, coming from Dhaka suddenly stopped after crossing the Joypurhat railway station due to some malfunction in locomotive, halting all train operations in the northern region. Later, another locomotive came to rescue the malfunctioning train and all train operations resumed.
It was learnt that the locomotive of the Panchagarh Express train suddenly stopped working at 6:50am on Thursday near the down outer signal after crossing Joypurhat railway station. As a result, train operations on that track were suspended for two hours, while three other trains remained halted on both sides of the track. Later, another alternative locomotive came to rescue the train. train operations became normal after 9:00am.
Due to the malfunction of the locomotive, the Panchagarh express arrived at Panchagarh at 1:45am.
The locomotive master of the Panchagarh Express, Saiful Azam, said that the incident occurred due to a rupture in the lubricant oil gasket of the engine, causing oil to leak. We refer to this as a train shut-down. A request was made for another engine to come from Parbatipur. Later, the alternative engine arrived from Parbatipur and rescued the train along with the malfunctioning engine at 9:00am.
Assistant locomotive master Alomgir Kabir said after leaving Joypurhat railway station and crossing the down signal, the locomotive malfunctioned. Despite numerous attempts, we could not restart it.
Joypurhat station master Rezaul Islam stated due to the single line, the Barendra Express and Chilahati Express were stranded at the north side of track, and the Titumir Express is stuck at the south of the track. Two hours later, a rescue train arrived from Parbatipur and took the engine away. As a result, train services returned to normal around 9:00am.
