Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Bangladesh Yousef S.Y. Ramadan met Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan on Tuesday, focusing on scholarships and admission opportunities for Palestinian students.
During the courtesy call at the VC’s office, the two discussed how DU could expand academic support for Palestine. The ambassador requested scholarships to help Palestinian youths study at DU, stressing the importance of education in building resilience amid ongoing conflict.
Ramadan also briefed Prof. Khan on the grave humanitarian crisis in Gaza, pointing to Israeli atrocities and the urgent need for global solidarity. He thanked the people of Bangladesh for consistently supporting the Palestinian struggle for justice and freedom. Prof. Khan assured that DU would actively explore ways to provide scholarships and facilitate enrolment of Palestinian students. He condemned the brutal attacks in Gaza, reaffirming DU’s tradition of standing beside oppressed nations and using education as a tool of empowerment.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Ramadan delivered a lecture at the Arabic Department titled “Gaza: The Genocide of the 21st Century Happening Live before the World’s Eyes.” He urged academics and students to raise global awareness of the crisis and called for stronger international action.
The visit highlighted Dhaka University’s role as not only Bangladesh’s premier educational institution but also a space for dialogue, solidarity, and global engagement. Both sides expressed hope that academic cooperation could serve as a bridge between Bangladesh and Palestine, opening doors for future generations.
