State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak has brought a burnt chuddar (shawl), recovered from the ruins of Bangabazar, at Tk 40,000 to help the traders, who were affected in the devastating inferno broke out in Bangabazar market in the capital on April 4 last.
Bidyanondo Foundation, a charity organisation, took an initiative of buying and selling burnt clothes of Bangabazar to support the traders affected by the fire.
By collecting these clothes, the charity is selling those to the rich people of society. The money collected from the sales will be handed over to the affected small traders.
As a part of this, the state minister brought a burnt sheet from the Bidyanondo Foundation in Bangabazar.
Palak bought this cloth item at an iftar distribution progarmme organised by Bidyanondo Foundation in Dhaka yesterday, a PID handout said on Friday. At this time, he said, the affected business community need financial and emotional support. "We, the 17 crore people, can stand by these 5,000 traders with whatever capacity we have," he said.
Palak said money is not important, but the important thing is that all are beside the affected traders.
