A Dhaka court on Thursday convicted and sentenced a Pakistani citizen to life imprisonment in a drug case lodged over recovery of 10.50 kilograms of heroin.
Dhaka Special Sessions Judge Court-5 Judge Iqbal Hossain announced the verdict in presence of the convict.
Lifer Alla Baksh, 48, a Pakistani national hailing from Karachi, was also fined Tk 20,000 and in default, he will have to suffer six months more in jail. Another accused in the case Md Harun, 60, was acquitted of the charge as he died during the trial proceedings.
APBn members seized over 10 kilograms of heroin worth Tk 10 crore, from the two Pakistani nationals at Dhaka aiport on February 27, 2013, the case statement said.
CID police inspector Shafiqur Rahman on February 28, filed a case against the duo with the Airport Police Station.
Later on July 14, the court framed charge against the accused and issued an order to start the case proceedings.
