In a major operation under its continued efforts to combat crime and uphold law and order, the Bangladesh Navy apprehended a child rapist and seized a massive cache of illegal fishing nets in Monpura, Bhola.

The arrest follows a heinous incident on 28 June 2025, when Md. Elias Hossain (28), manager of a local fishing net store, allegedly lured and brutally assaulted a young boy in Monpura upazila.  On 17 July (Thursday), the victim’s mother filed a written complaint with the Bangladesh Navy’s Monpura contingent.

Acting swiftly on the information, a coordinated raid was conducted on 18 July (Friday) around 6:00pm in the local market area.

The Navy, in collaboration with Monpura Police, the UNO, and other officials, arrested Elias Hossain along with his accomplice, Hasan Master.

During the operation, authorities also uncovered a hidden warehouse near the shop, where approximately 70 lakh metres of illegal current nets were stockpiled. The estimated market value of the confiscated nets is Tk 25 crore. The warehouse was sealed, and the illegal nets were publicly incinerated as per procedure.

Both detainees have been handed over to Monpura Police Station for legal proceedings. This operation underscores the Bangladesh Navy’s proactive role in maintaining public safety and curbing criminal activity, particularly in coastal and riverine regions.
