As the project work was not improved Tk 12 crore was returned to the government, the board authority said adding that although they sent a letter to the government requesting to extend the project’s duration.   According to the sources, Bangladesh Water Development Board, Rajshahi took the project to prevent erosion of the Padma from Bulonpur to Sonaikandi area in the city. Under this project, dredging work on Padma was started in April this year. During the work, there was low water in Padma.

The dredging works had continued for about two and a half months as water level of the Padma was increasing. For this, the board authorities stopped all sorts of works of the project. Mentioning the facilities of the project, the experts said that the government should be more aware so that no projects in this sector are being unsuccessful. Professor Dr. Choudhury Sarwar Jahan, a member of the government’s Water Task Force and a teacher of Zoology and Mining Department said the Bangladesh Post that it was important to choose the right time to implement risky projects like river training. Otherwise, the government will face loss financially.
