In a remarkable display of seamless transportation, millions of people from
the 21 districts of the South-Western region are flocking to their hometowns to celebrate Eid ul Azha with their loved ones, thanks to the Padma Bridge.
As the rush intensifies, the toll collection on the bridge has recently exceeded Tk 800 crore within a year since the commencement of traffic.
Syed Rajab Ali, the Executive Engineer of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project, expressed his satisfaction over the smooth Eid traffic flow, emphasizing how it has contributed to the increase in revenue. In the past 24 hours alone, an impressive total of 31,298 vehicles have crossed the Padma Bridge, resulting in a toll collection of Tk 306,175,800.
Providing further details, Ali stated that until Monday, June 26, the toll collection had amounted to Tk 8,051,705,550 from a movement of 5,728,651 vehicles. The remarkable revenue achievement indicates the efficiency and popularity of the bridge among commuters, as well as its significant contribution to the region's transportation infrastructure.
To facilitate the smooth passage of vehicles, the Padma Bridge features a total of 15 toll collection booths on both banks. At the Mawa end, there are seven booths, while the Jazira end has eight. Furthermore, to cater to motorcycle traffic, there are two four-lane sections on each side, ensuring an uninterrupted flow. The utilization of service lanes and additional
booths for toll collection has been carefully implemented to minimize disruptions to other forms of traffic, resulting in a seamless experience for all commuters.
The successful operation of the Padma Bridge during the festive season not only allows individuals to celebrate Eid with their loved ones without the usual sufferings of traffic congestion but also serves as a testament to
the bridge's significance as a vital transportation link in the South-Western region. It has not only facilitated the movement of people and goods but has also become a reliable source of revenue for the development and maintenance of this colossal infrastructure project.
As the celebrations of Eid continue and traffic on the Padma Bridge remains efficient, authorities anticipate the toll collection to rise further, reflecting the growing popularity and importance of this monumental bridge in connecting communities and promoting regional development.
