The authorities concerned of the Padma Bridge project started experimental road carpeting work on Thursday.
Paving work started on the road above the span of the 40th and 41st pillars at the Zazira end of the bridge.
Padma Bridge Executive Engineer (Main Bridge) Dewan Abdul Quader confirming the information told Bangladesh Post, “We have just started the process experimentally. On the first day, the 60 meters long and 10 meters wide part of the bridge was paved on Tuesday. However, the paving work at full speed will start from October. Total carpeting work will be completed within three months and the bridge will be inaugurated in June”.
According to the Padma Bridge project information, it would take a week to carpet the 6.15 km bridge. But the carpeting on the bridge is completely different from other roads. This carpeting will get special importance. It will take three months to start carpeting at full speed from October.
Then, the necessary marking and road sign and speed limit on the bridge will be set up. Various types of traffic signs including the median of bridge road will be given.
As of June 30, the work on the Padma Bridge has progressed 94 percent. The overall progress of the Padma Bridge project is 87 percent.
