Several tower constructions beside the Padma Bridge to transfer the high voltage power line is scheduled to be complete today (Sunday).
This initiative is under Aminbazar-Mawa-Mongla 400 KV transmission line (first revised) development project. Under the project, foundations of seven towers have been laid on the river Padma for the construction of river-crossing lines.
The 400 kV high voltage power line is being constructed along the Padma Bridge. At first there were plans to draw lines along the bridge. But considering the safety, the line is being taken sideways.
Meanwhile, road marking work is going on at the last minute to make the Padma Bridge fully ready for traffic movement. Work is also underway to install lamp posts, hand rolling and traffic signals. If the weather remains favorable, the work will be completed by June 15.
Padma Bridge project Executive Engineer Dewan Abdul Quader confirmed the information to Bangladesh Post on Saturday. He said that the work of marking the road of 6.15 km bridge started from May 18. In the last 15 days, the marking work progressed over 70 percent. If the weather is favorable, it will be possible to complete the work in five to six days. Then this bridge will be fully ready for vehicular movement.
Besides, painting of the bridge, railings and installation of traffic signals are in the final stages. Electricity connection is now being provided to 415 lamp posts of the bridge. As of Saturday, the progress of installation of lamp posts is 95 percent. In all, the work on the main bridge has progressed by more than 99 percent. If the weather is favorable, the bridge will be ready for inauguration by June 15.
There are 200 lamp posts on the connecting road along the bridge. At the last moment, the electrical connection work is going on. Electricity connection will be provided to these lamp posts from substations on both sides of the bridge.
The installation of two temporary power substations at both ends of the bridge is almost complete. The work of this substation will be completed this month, said the responsible engineers.
