Engineers today would install the13th span of the Padma Bridge on the 14th and 15th pillars of the 6.13 km bridge. With this installation, a total of 1,950 meters of the bridge will be visible, the engineers says. At the same time, installation of high speed railway track on the span is also continuing with a view to complete the work within the stipulated time.
Earlier on Friday, due to adverse weather, project engineers hold the span installation. Till now with the installation of total 12th spans a total of 1800 meters are now visible. With the installation of 13th span, the bridge will 1950 meter visible. According to project details, on October 14, 2018, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unveiled the name plaque of Padma Bridge Toll Plaza at the Mawa end.
The national economy is expected to witness 1.2 percent GDP growth rate once the bridge is in operation, while 0.84 percent poverty will be reduced every year after. The bridge is being built with an estimated cost of Taka 30,193.39 crore. The first span of the Padma Bridge was installed on September 30, 2017. The second span was installed four months later on January 28, 2018 while the third one was placed on March 11, after one and a half months. According to the engineers concerned, a total of 41 spans will be installed on 42 concrete pillars to complete the bridge.
On the other hand, on last May 17, first railway span was installed on the viaduct of the bridge at the Jajira point. Engineers engaged with the work placed the J3 railway span over the pillars 20 and 21 at Jajira end. As per the project details, a total of 14 railway spans will be installed on the spans. The length of each span is 38m, comprising of six I-girders. A total of 84 girders will be set up on the rail viaduct on both sides of the Bridge.
