The road and railway construction work on the Padma Bridge is progressing very first to finish the final tasks in due time. The bridge is expected to be officially opened for all this year as the tasks are on in full swing despite the coronavirus pandemic.
Bangladesh’s economy will get a huge boost with the expected ‘industrial revolution’ in 21 southwestern districts after the inauguration of the long-cherished Padma Multi-Purpose Bridge soon.
Experts said: “Padma Bridge will contribute to increasing the country’s GDP growth. The mega project is near to the completion due to the visionary and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
Once it is completed fully and opened to traffic soon, the economy of Bangladesh is likely to get a huge boost with the expected industrial revolution of the southwestern districts, experts said.
Earlier, the main structure of the 6.15-kilometre long Padma Bridge became fully visible on Thursday with the installation of its last span.
The dream of the people of 21 southern districts to get connected to Dhaka by road nears completion.
The double-layer bridge has a total of 41 spans. Trains will run through the lower deck while the road will be on the upper level of the bridge. Engineers say it can withstand a magnitude 9 earthquake.
