Paddy sale begins at Tk 27 per kg

In the new ‘BORO’ season, the procurement of paddy has begun directly from farmers at Tk 27 per kg. 

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder inaugurated the institutional paddy collection program by joining a video conference from Dhaka on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the food minister instructed the officers and employees to follow the social distance and hygiene rules properly and wear masks. 

The food minister also instructed the officials and employees to keep a watchful eye so that the farmers do not face any kind of harassment while delivering paddy in the warehouse. Sadhan Majumder also said that no compromise will be made with the quality of paddy and rice.

Paddy will be purchased from farmers through the app in upazilas. In case of any problem in registering a farmer through the app, the concerned committee has to resolve the issue quickly, directed the minister.

In the current season, the government will procure 650,000 metric tonnes of paddy at Tk 27 per kg directly from farmers, 10 lakh metric tonnes of rice at Tk 40 per kg and 1.5 lakh metric tonnes of Atap rice at Tk 39 per kg from millers.

Food Secretary Mosammat Nazmanara Khanum and Director General of the Food Department Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other senior officials of the Food Ministry and the Food Department were also present online at the time.

Senior officials of Netrokona and Kishoreganj districts of Dhaka division, Naogaon and Bogra districts of Rajshahi division, Dinajpur district of Rangpur division and senior officials of district administration of 9 districts including Sylhet Sadar, Habiganj, Moulvibazar and Sunamganj of Sylhet division, district food department officials, mill owners and farmer representatives were connected online.
