Chattogram oxygen cylinder traders have become reckless by capitalizing on the oxygen crisis, whereas various organisations and individuals are distributing free oxygen to meet the corona medical crisis all over the country.
Chattogram district administration launched a mobile court in the district on Tuesday to catch these dishonest traders.
During the drive the mobile court fined two oxygen cylinder trading companies a total of Tk 4.3 lakh in Chattogram town.
Although the price of each oxygen cylinder is Tk 9,000, these unscrupulous traders in Chattogram are selling them at the price of Tk 15,000, earning an additional profit of Tk 3,000.
A company named Bismillah Enterprise in Chawkbazar was fined Tk 4 lakh for failing to show extra invoices and business related documents while, another company in Askardighi was fined Tk 30,000 during the drive. District Administration Executive Magistrate Omar Faruq led the mobile court drive.
Executive Magistrate Omar Faruq said the drive was carried out following allegations of extortion creating artificial shortage of oxygen cylinders during the corona crisis.
He also informed that an organization called M/S Brothers Engineer in Sadarghat was fined Tk 1 lakh on the same charge earlier on Monday. He warned that such behavior of unscrupulous traders by the patients hostage during corona crisis will not be tolerated in any way.
