Owners, workers together have to face RMG industry challenges: Tipu Munshi

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Wednesday said both the owners and workers have to take responsibility to face challenges in RMG industry.

He said The recent growth in the readymade garments (RMG) industry is much better and all have to work together to sustain this trend. The RMG sector has experienced improvement in many of it's indexes which is not found in any other sectors. 

Minister made the remarks while addressing as chief guest at a discussion meting titled "Recent RMG Growth: What Lessons we lerant about decent employment" organised jointly by Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and 'Christian Aid Bangladesh' at Brac Center Inn, Mohakhali in the capital.

" Owners are responsible to look after the interests of workers while workers also have to understand the reality of owners part, so a decent employment situation is possible to create through working jointly with good understanding and through which the RMG industry of Bangladesh move ahead further", Minister added. 

Executive Director of CPD, Dr. Fahmida Khatun presided over the discussion while Director Research, CPD, Dr. Khondoker Golam Moazzem presented keynote paper on the occasion. CPD Chairman, emiment economist Dr. Rehman Sobhan joined the event virtually while Director General of Department of Labour, Khaled Mamun Chowdhury, President of Garments Trade Union Center, Advocate Montu Ghosh also addressed the session among others.
