Expressing his commitment to reform the country’s health sector, Health Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen on Sunday said that he will work for bringing public confidence in the health services.
People cannot fully rely on the country’s health services as most of the hospitals in Bangladesh lack skilled physicians and necessary medical equipment as well.
Bangladeshi patients, particularly from the middle-income group, go to India for treatment while the rich ones go to Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, the USA and the UK. We have noticed that most of the hospitals are running with shortage of qualified physicians and as a result, they (hospitals) cannot provide proper treatment for the patients. Such a situation at hospitals and clinics cannot continue in the modern world.
So, physicians and others concerned will have to put in their all-out efforts to increase public confidence in them and reach the health services to all.
We believe a personality like Dr Samanta Lal Sen, who has served the people throughout his life, will work for the people of the country as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina entrusted him with the responsibility of public health. We are very hopeful that he (Dr Samanta Lal Sen) will move the country’s health sector forward and brighten the country’s image through improving health services.
Therefore, the health ministry led by Dr Samanta Lal Sen will start work to overhaul the country’s health sector. But, the ministry has to give some time to initiate the work.
Physicians and others concerned will have to
put in their all-out
efforts to increase public
confidence
It is our strong belief that the physicians and others concerned are able to ensure that health services reach the people’s doorstep.
We have noticed many patients complained that they were dragonised wrongly. The patients, who did not have any health-related complications, were diagnosed either with cancer or diabetics.
Physicians need to carry out more study on patients to properly detect the diseases they are suffering from. So, the government will have to set up laboratory at upazila level, which will conduct various medical and diagnostic tests as well as laboratory research accurately.
It is the responsibility of the health ministry to check whether the private hospitals and clinics are equipped with modern laboratory facilities and latest sophisticated technologies. If they lack modern laboratory facilities, how they will provide proper treatment to people?
