Today, June 1, more than 5 lakh children in Bogura will receive vitamin A capsules as part of a nationwide campaign aimed at reducing infant mortality. The campaign, with the slogan "Give vitamin A, reduce infant mortality risk," will be a day-long event held across the district.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Shafiul Azam announced the details during a press orientation at the Bogura Civil Surgeon Conference Room on Thursday at 11 a.m. He emphasised the importance of awareness to prevent misinformation, assuring that the vitamin A capsules are safe with no serious side effects.
Children aged 6 to 11 months will receive a blue-colored vitamin A capsule, while those aged 12 to 59 months will be given a red-colored capsule. Specifically, 61,921 children in the 6–11 month age group and 4,50,767 children in the 12-59 month age group will benefit from this campaign.
Dr. Azam stated that the capsules would be distributed at 2,867 centres throughout the district. He also noted that no child would be forced to take the capsule if they refused, and those who miss the campaign can receive the capsule later at regular centres. Additionally, two bus terminals will serve as mobile centres for this year's campaign, with three volunteers at each centre to ensure the program's success.
The orientation was attended by Dr. Samir Hossain Mishu, Bogura Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer; Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Shahnaz Parvin; and various print and media journalists from the district.
This initiative is a critical step in promoting child health, reducing mortality rates, and ensuring that children receive essential nutrients to support their development.
