A total of 33.52 tonnes of honey was collected from the mustard fields of Jamalpur district this Robi season.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources in the year 2021-2022 farmers of the district cultivated mustard on 23,560 hectares of land but they collected honey from 4,915 hectares of mustard field. Honey collectors set up 4,848 bee boxes in all the seven upazilas of the district which was 625 boxes more than the last year. In retail markets one kilogram of honey is being sold at Taka about 300 but in the whole sale market we get Taka 150 to 175 which is not fair price for us, Nurul said. Due to dry weather and use of pesticide in mustard field honey collection is decreasing, he said.
