Honey collection is on the last stage in Jamalpur district as most of the harvesters have completed their collection from mustard filed during this current season.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said they have collected 30303 kilograms (KGs) of honey from the mustard field in seven Upazilas of the district till January 1.
According tothe DAE sources, in the year of 2022-2023, farmers in the district have cultivated mustard on 32500 hectares of land but honey is being collected from 5661 hectares of land which is 746 hectares more than last year. Honey collectors set up 5942 bee boxes in all the seven Upazilas in the district which is 1094 boxes more than last year.
The office said 5830 kg honey was collected from Islampur Upazila while 14315 kg in Melandah,3330 kg in Sarishabari, 4360 kg in Dewanganj ,1410 kg in Bakshiganj, 380 kg in Madarganj and 678 kg in Jamalpur Sadar.
Deputy Director, DAE, Zakia Sultana said some honey collectors closed collection and left the spot but some others will collect honey up to mid of January.
