Coronavirus is wreaking havoc all over the world and Bangladesh is no exception. However, during these difficult times, there are individuals and organisations who have rushed to the street despite the countrywide shutdown to help the needy people around without worrying about themselves. We can call them the real-life superheroes.
With their desire to help the people who are affected by coronavirus, they showed that power of humanity and positivity is way more world widespread than this pandemic. April 22 marked the first marriage anniversary of the couple Milon Hasan and Zeba Hasan. They both were in love and married each other last year. Amid the coronavirus outbreak in the country, the couple have set an example and celebrated the day in the service of humanity. They delivered relief items to 20 helpless families. Milon Hasan said, “We have tried to give a little gift to the people who have lost their livelihood in corona.I think this is the best way to celebrate a wedding anniversary during a disaster.”
From March 26, a general holiday has been declared to prevent coronavirus outbreak in the country. This holiday has been extended from March 26 to May 5.Staying at home is the most powerful tool to combat this virus. However, hunger is the only fear for the people who have lost their livelihood due to corona.
Bidyananda Foundation has always been a name that comes forward for these poor and needy people. They have set a target of delivering food to the family members of 5 lakh workers, who are affected by the corona. Their goal is to deliver 500 tons of rice, pulses, salt and oil. The organisation is also providing medical supplies and PPE to doctors. They are conducting this activity through people’s donation.
Many have come forward individually as well. We all heard the news of a beggar, who donated Tk 10,000 to the Corona Victims Relief Fund. Various organisations are also donating a portion of their salaries to this fund. Another woman from a slum in Rangpur only ate puffed rice for about 4 days. The woman was so sick that she could not get out of the house. This news got viral on Facebook and about 1400 people shared this in 1 day. Many people extended helping hand and it was found that she had received so much support that her house was full with relief items.
A teacher from a private university always donates to various organisations. He lives in Kazipara of the capital. He helped his maid, who used to come to his house to work and also other needy people in the area. He delivered food items like pulses and rice to 6 families on his own initiative. “I didn’t have the money at that moment,” he said. I had to borrow to help people.”
DUSCU member Tanvir Hasan Saikat has been working tirelessly for a month to provide food to 500 helpless floating people twice a day. There are countless examples like this all around us. These are the positive things, which have arisen from these difficult times. Humanity is still alive.
