Since the beginning of coronavirus outbreak in Bangladesh, the country had gone into a period of general closure to keep the rate of infection limited. Since the end of March till today numerous educational institutions have been closed down due to this general closure.

However, schools, colleges and universities were encouraged to continue their courses and curriculum over online classes. To some this was a new experience as this is the first time such a directive was given from the government. This was done with the best of intentions. Still there were some limitations in this plan when trying to bring it to fruition.

A report published in this daily showed that most of the university students are reluctant to take online classes owing to inability, high cost and poor internet speed in remote areas.

Let a better and cheaper connectivity

be created around the country through

internet where no student suffers

And since university students face such problems then undoubtedly the students in schools and colleges are also subjected to the same issues. The report showed that a survey carried our among a thousand students of different tertiary level educational institutions almost 65 percent of the students were reluctant to attend online classes.

The reason behind this problem was the inability to use high speed internet, high cost, poor speed and not having Smartphones or laptops. Moreover, the urge to conduct online classes could not be seen as one would predict among the public universities. However, some of the private universities adhered to the directive of the education ministry and conducted classes online.

Another issue is the fact that most students are living in areas of the country where the internet connection can be quite costly even mobile internet. These pose as a major obstacle in the government’s aim to become a middle income country by 2021, where even proper internet connection cannot be provided to all areas of the country.

Even though modern students these days are apt in technology and get better facilities in the capital, the case is not so similar in the rural areas. Let a better and cheaper connectivity be created around the country through internet where no student suffers.
