An online bird trader was held at Basabo in Sabujbagh area in the city on Tuesday (May 30). The detainee was identified as Shakil Ahmed, 22, son of Noor Mohammad.
The Wildlife Crime Control Unit (WCCU) of the Forest Department carried out a raid on the online bird shop and rescued hornbill, locally known as Dhanesh, cuckoo, parrots and some other birds.
Nargis Sultana Liza, a wildlife inspector at the Forest Department; confirmed the matter to the Bangladesh Post. She said that on information, a WCCU team with the support of police carried out the raid in Sabujbagh area in Dhaka and detained the owner of the online shop with the hornbill bird and some other birds.
She said that the detainee was under the custody of the police. Process of filing case against him was underway.
Nargis Sultana Liza thanked Nurul Huda Ashrafi, a high official of police headquarters, and others for assisting the WCCU with immediate action.
