It is as though the price hike of onions each year at a specific time has become a sort of common phenomenon that people have to endure for a certain number of days. However, there is yet no way to tell exactly that the price hike of onions will take place. Hence, people more often than not suffer due to such incidences taking place in the country. Under the circumstances the common man cannot help but ration the consumption of onion. Yet, this cannot be considered a permanent solution.
This time there is ample stock of the government and thus it can be said that there is less chance for the onion price to reach sky-high level. A report published in this daily projected that the country has sufficient stock of onion to meet the demand for next two months. It is encouraging to know that there is adequate stock at present. Yet, before there is any crisis in the market the price seems to have skyrocketed. Conscious people cannot but help ask why?
It would be prudent to conduct
campaign against such rule-breakers who take
advantage of the common man
If there is still two months left before the onion stock runs out then there is still time to import onion in adequate quantity to meet the demand of the people. And since there is a crisis at hand, then it can easily be surmised to the instigation of syndicators or vested traders who are creating this scenario out of unscrupulous interests. If such is the case, it would be prudent to conduct campaign against such rule-breakers who take advantage of the common man.
On the other hand, it is laudable that stock of 600,000 tonnes of onion out of the required 1 million tonne that is needed to last until January. This stock created by the government is being handy right now with the artificial crisis in the country. It now falls upon the law enforcement agencies to list, locate and punish these vested groups.
It is also the onus of the authorities concerned to talk matters out with India and resume the trade of onion. Thus, the quicker this matter is solved the better it would be for the people.
