Onion price up, chicken and rice down

The price of onion has gone up in a week. However, prices of chicken and rice have decreased.

On the other hand, the prices of vegetables and other products remain unchanged. 

The images surfaced on Friday while visiting the capital's different markets including Karwan Bazar, Rampura Bazar and Khilgaon. 

Onion is being sold at Tk 40 to Tk 45 per kg with an increase of Tk 5 per unit. However, different varieties of rice price went down by at least Tk 2 while chicken price also decreased after Eid vacation. 

In these markets, BR-28 rice is being sold at Tk 48 to Tk 50 per kg, Miniket at Tk 55 to Tk 60, Nazirshail rice at Tk 62 to Tk 64 and coarse rice at Tk 40 to Tk 42. 

The price of loose edible oil is prevailing in between Tk 135 and Tk 139 per liter.

Sonali chickens are being sold at Tk 230 per kg after a sharp decrease of Tk 30, broilers at Tk 135 per kg after price fall of Tk 35 to Tk 40, and layers at Tk 230 to Tk 240 per kg. 

The prices of beef and mutton, spices and other products remained unchanged in the market. Mutton is being sold at Tk 700 to Tk 750 per kg, and beef at Tk 580 per kg.

Traders said that, "As the busy capital city still remains quiet, demand for meat and chicken went down. Chicken price can be decreased further."

While visiting the vegetables section of these markets, it was found that, carrots cost was Tk 40 per kg, brinjal Tk 30 to Tk 40, bitter gourd Tk 40 to Tk 50, radish Tk 40 to Tk 50, potato Tk 50 to Tk 60, tomato Tk 30, okra Tk 40 to Tk 50, string beans Tk 60, sweet pumpkin Tk 20 to Tk 30, Parwal Tk 40 to Tk 50, Shajne Tk 50 to Tk 60, Potato Tk 20, Papaya Tk 40 to Tk 50, Cucumber Tk 50 to Tk 60, Peas Tk 50 to Tk 60, teasel gourd Tk 60. Each piece of gourd is being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 60 depending on the size, while cabbage is being sold at Tk 30. Green

chilies are being sold at Tk 40 per kg.

Dried chilies are sold at Tk 180 per kg, garlic at Tk 80 to Tk 120, ginger at Tk 80 to Tk 150 and turmeric at Tk 180 to Tk 220 per kg.

The price of per kg sugar is being sold at Tk 75 while packet sugar per kg is Tk 78. 

However, prices of different fishes remain same as past week. 

In these markets, per kg chital fish was selling at Tk 450 to Tk 500 per kg, Awn fish at Tk 500, Rohi at Tk 250 to Tk 350 per kg, Katla at Tk 280 to Tk 380, Tilapia at Tk Tk 150, Boal fish at Tk 400 to Tk 500 while  Pangas was sold at Tk 140 to Tk 170, Pabda sold at Tk 150 to Tk 250, and Shing sold at Tk 300 to Tk 450 (based on quality and size).
