Onion, chicken dearer

Prices of onions, lentil, and chicken have gone up in different kitchen markets in the capital within a span of a week. However, the prices of other products remain unchanged.

The situation was observed after visiting a good number of kitchen markets in the capital on Friday.

The price of onion has increased by Tk 5 per kg. Onions are being sold at Tk 45 per kg.

Local lentil is being sold at Tk 120 per kilogram (kg). The price of per kg Indian lentil has increased by Tk 5 and was being sold at Tk 85 to Tk 90 per kg.

The price of Sonali chicken has increased from Tk 40 to Tk 50 per kg. The current price of these chickens is Tk 260 to Tk 280 per kg. Last week it was sold at Tk 230 to Tk 240 per kg.

Broiler chickens are being sold in the market at Tk 140 to Tk 145 per kg. Layer chicken is being sold at Tk 230 to Tk 240 per kg.

Most of the vegetables in the markets are being sold at the previous prices. Price of per kg brinjal is Tk 60 per kg, bitter gourd is Tk 60 per kg, tomato is Tk 100 per kg, bean Tk 120 per kg and string bean was sold at Tk 60 per kg. A medium sized gourd is Tk 60, pumpkin is Tk 40 per kg, sponge gourd at Tk 40, pointed gourd at Tk 40 and spiny gourd at Tk 40 to Tk 60. Potatoes are being sold at Tk 20 per kg while green chili is Tk 100 per kg.

Garlic was being sold at Tk 80 to Tk 130 per kg and ginger at Tk 100 per kg. Turmeric was being sold at Tk 180 to Tk 220 per kg.

Sugar is being sold at Tk 80 per kg. Besides, packets of sugar are being sold at Tk 85 per kg.

However, the government on Thursday in a inter ministry meeting fixed the sugar price which was supposed to be effective from Friday. But there is no reflection of the decision in the markets. 

As per government decision loose sugar price was fixed at Tk 74 per kg when the packet sugar’s price was fixed at Tk 75.
