Ongoing drives must be accelerated to prevent dengue: DNCC Mayor

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam said that theAedes mosquito, dengue and chikungunya must be prevented through public awareness by accelerating the ongoing social movement.

He told this to  journalists present at Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan on Saturday, explaining the importance and significance of the slogan "Clean your homes, 10 minutes every Saturday at 10 am" to prevent Aedes mosquitoes, dengue and chikungunya, which has also been promoted live on the DNCC's Facebook page.

Md. Atiqul Islam expressed his sincere gratitude to all the city dwellers who participated in the clean-up activities of their homes and at the same time posted it on Facebook.

He said that for a healthy environment, the ongoing social movement should be intensified with the active participation of people in clean-up activities.

The DNCC mayor said that care should be taken to ensure that water tubs, unused tyres, coconut shells, open packets of chips, various types of open containers, roofs or other places do not collect stationary water for more than 3 days. 

Md. Atiqul Islam said that the most informative picture providing dataon the source of Aedes mosquito using "Shobar Dhaka" mobile app will also be rewarded.

He said a financial reward of Tk5 to 50 would be given for each unused commodity, depending on size, that has a risk of becoming a breeding ground. 

The DNCC mayor said that free dengue testing has been arranged in 46 urban health centers of Dhaka North City Corporation for the welfare of the city dwellers.

Later, Atiqul visited several Covid-19 vaccination centers including BananiBidyaniketan High School and Kalachandpur High School and College in the capital.

He said that the free vaccination of Covid-19 has started in 54 centers of 54 wards of Dhaka North City Corporation which will continue till August 12. All the adults have to get vaccinated against the virus in an orderly manner, he added.

Among others, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Selim Reza, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Md. Jobaidur Rahman and local councilors were present.
