Chairman of the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) M Zahirul Alam Dhobhas held a press conference to brief the progress of several ongoing projects undertaken by the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) for the development of the port city of Chittagong.

CDA chairman briefed reporters on the progress of the CDA's ongoing projects. The  press conference was held at the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) building on Saturday afternoon.

M Zahirul Alam Dhobhas said, “When I took charge, the road from Patenga to Fauzdarhat for the City Outer Ring Road project was all dirt. I have now carpeted the road and made it suitable for traffic on the road. So far 92 percent of the work on this project has been completed. The rest of the work will be completed in 6 months to 1 year.”

He said a project is being implemented to build a road cum-dam from Kalurghat Bridge to Chaktai canal along the banks of Karnafuli River. About 25 percent of the work on this project has been completed.

CDA chairman said the project to build an elevated expressway from Lalkhan Bazar to the airport was taken up. It got stuck in the middle. I started again after taking charge. Preliminary work has already been completed in the area up to about 10 km. Overall the progress of this project is about 36 percent.

CDA chairman said the canal was being re-excavated, expanded, renovated and developed to reduce water logging in Chittagong city. The project is being implemented by the Army Engineering Corps through CDA. The project has 35 percent financial progress and 50 percent physical progress.

‘This work was also closed. I started again after taking charge. We have come a long way in the last one year and due to which there was no water logging in Chittagong city this time. Tidal water has risen in some places. Closing the sluice gate will also solve it.’

He added that there has been a by-pass road from Bayazid Bostami to Fauzdarhat. The financial progress of this work is 81 percent and about 90 percent physical progress of the work has been done. In addition, 83 percent physical progress has been made on the Bakalia Approach Road construction project. Financial progress is 60 percent.
