A young man was killed in a mob beating on suspicion of theft in Gournadiupazila of Barishal. The incident occurred in Pashchim Shaora village of the upazilaon early Monday.
Locals and eyewitnesses said that around 3:30am on Monday, a group of thieves attempted to steal a battery-run auto rickshaw from the house of Mohammad Monir Bepari in PashcimShaora village of Chandshi union. After noticing that the thieves were attempting to steal the auto rickshaw, the family members screamed for help, and the villagers gathered to chase after the thieves. During the chase, one young man was caught by the mob. The angry crowd then beat him mercilessly. Later, the villagers informed the police in the morning.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gournadi model police station, Yunus Mia, said on information police reached the scene and rescued the youth who became the victim of mob beating. He was taken to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared himdead.
The OC said the body was sent to BarishalSadar Hospital for post-mortem. They are trying to identify the body. Legal actions will be taken regarding this incident.
